Overview

Colorectal cancer first occurs in the large intestine.

Early Symptoms

  • Bleeding with stools
  • General tiredness/weight loss
  • Altered bowel habits
  • Some tumours are hereditary–caution and screening is needed

Diagnosis

  • Ultrasound Scan
  • CT Scan
  • PET CT/ MR PET
  • Colonoscopy and Biopsy
  • Tumor marker–CEA blood test

Treatment

  • Surgery
  • Chemotherapy
  • Radiation therapy may be combined with the above depending on the stage of the cancer
